Virginia State Meet XC Recap 2021 - Western Albemarle Boys Win 4A Title

Sailor Eastman of Battlefield Takes 6A Girls Final In 17:29

The best teams in Virginia at the VHSL championship meet came out of the Class 4A finals on Nov. 13 at Great Meadow Park in Plains. 

The Western Albemarle boys scored 77 points and split 46 seconds on its five scorers to claim the 4A boys title over Grafton (96). 

Senior Ava Gordon of Loudoun Valley won her third consecutive state title in 17:53 to lead her team to a fourth straight team championship.  

Sophomore Sailor Eastman from Battlefield captured the 6A individual title with the best time of the day, 17:29. Thais Rolly from McLean was second in 17:50. Ocean Lakes won the team championship with 67 points and put all five scorers under 20 minutes. 

Loudoun Valley's Graham Mussmon won the 4A final with the fastest time of the day among boys, with 15:43. 

Oakton scored 83 points and edged out Yorktown (88) and WT Woodson (92) in a close 6A boys team race. Yorktown senior Owen McArdle won the race in 15:45.

With six runners in the top 23, Glen Allen ran away with the 5A boys trophy with 38 points. Sophomore Berkley Nance won the indvidual title in 16:12. 

Deep Run scored 78 points to win a 5A girls team race that had five teams within 20 points. Midlothian was second with 88 points, Glen Allen was third with 90, Albemarle was fourth with 96 and Frank Cox was fifth with 98. Senior Gabriella Garcia of Midlothian won the race in 18:55.

The Class 3A/2A/1A meet was conducted at Green Hill Park in Salem. 

Abingdon won the 3A boys title with 33 points as senior teammates Isaac Theissen and Dylan Phillips went 1-2 and the team put four runners in the top seven overall. 

Maggie L. Walker took the girls team win with 72 points, with Catherine Garrison and Gray Pershing taking fifth and eighth, respectively. Junior Ava Bordner of Skyline won the race in 18:30.1.
